Reader News AUG 05 / FACO sends Korean Traditional Performing Art Group to UKC 2014 (US-Korea Conference for Science and Technology) [English translation below]
FACO (The Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations of Korea, 한국예총) sends Korean Traditional Performing Arts Group to US-Korea Conference for Science and Technology (UKC 2014), that takes place at the Hyatt Hotel in San Francisco, USA from the 6th to the 9th.
The 16th UKC is organized by The Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association(KSEA) and co-directed by The Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST), and is the biggest conference of Korean & American scientists that ranges over science, technology and high technology and is expected to have around 1,500 participants from both countries.
As a part of international exchange to spread Korean traditional art to the world and to contribute to propser culture, FACO will send a Korean Traditional Performing Art Group and show the performances of high quality such as Samulnori to the local, for two days during the conference (6th and 7th).
'Janchimadang' (director: Seo. Gwang-il ; expert of Korean arts and culture) that will be sent for this conference, was founded in 1992 and designated as the first 'Culture and Art Social Enterprise' of Incheon city. They've been sharing culture & art and leading the globalization of Korean traditional culture through a number of concerts abroad.
Especially at this performance, they'll show 'Pangut' that submliates entertainment & ritual and 'Fusion Gugak Sinmodeum' that anybody would enjoy. As an event, there'll be an opportunity to experience Hanji(Korean traditional paper) craft (by Y-me craft and design, president: Kim, Yeong-mi / master of Korean culture and arts) where the participants can make their own masks and paper fans.
'Running as a part of 'FACO International Exchange Project' since 2012'
This performance is expected to contribute to promote the excellence of Korean traditional culture and arts. Cheolg-yeong Ha, the Chairman of FACO has announced that 'We are planning on continuously running various kinds of international exchange programs to promote Korean arts and culture to international society in the future continuously'.
FACO is a non-profit arts and culture organization that represents Korea and has been introducing the superiority of Korean Arts and Culture despite of many challenges, and running 'FACO International exchange project' that sends professional instructors and provide traditional instruments to Sacramento Korean school every year since 2012.
